Player Code of Conduct
I agree that playing in this league is a significant commitment and I will do my best to attend all team practices and games. I realize the importance of team play and building skill levels that comes through regular practice.
I will work hard on learning the fundamentals of the game including shooting, dribbling, passing, catching, footwork and rebounding as well as basic offensive and defensive strategies.
I will practice and play games as well as I can with a spirit of sportsmanship, fair play and respect for all players, officials and coaches.
I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person. Regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background, religion or other factor irrelevant to the game, all persons connected with basketball are entitled to equal treatment and respect. Avoid any remarks that could be construed as offensive or discriminatory. Sometimes even a joke may give offence. Even if a person refers to themselves with a particular label, it should not be taken as an invitation for you to do so. Using discretion is imperative and it is better to err on the side of caution.
I agree to treat all of my teammates and opponents, all coaches, league officials, parents and spectators with courtesy and respect, including:
· Listening to and following directions of my coaches and league officials.
· Not talking back or saying anything disrespectful to coaches, referees, teammates, parents or spectators.
· Never teasing or criticizing players on my team or any other team.
I will not be selfish with the ball - I will include all of my teammates in our practice and games.
I will wear the VEMBL approved uniform, including proper shorts with no pockets, zippers or buckles.
I will remain on the bench at all times during the entire game. NO ONE is permitted to wander the hallways.
I understand that smoking, vaping, alcohol or drugs are not permitted on school property inside or outside. I understand that this would result in immediate league suspension for the remainder of the season.
Theft will not be tolerated.
As a player representing the Valley East Minor Basketball League and local community, I will try my best to honour all of the statements above.
